Minutes of the Supreme Court of the United States
[New York, 2–3 August 1790]
At the Supreme Judicial Court of the United States, begun and held at New York (being the Seat of the National Government) on the first Monday of August, and on the Second day of said Month Anno. Domini 1790.
Present.
The Honble. John Jay Esqr. Chief Justice.
The Honble. William Cushing James Wilson John Blair and James Iredell Esqrs. Associate Justices.1
Proclamation is made and the Court is opened.
Letters patent to the Honble. James Iredell Esqr. bearing date the 10th. day of February 1790. appointing him one of the Associate Justices of this Court; are openly read and published in Court.2
Ordered, that the Clerk of this Court procure a Seal for the Circuit Court of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, similar to the circuit Seals ordered the last Term, and when done that he cause the same to be conveyed to the Clerk of the District of Said State &c.
Richard Bassett, and John Vining Esqrs. are severally sworn as the Law directs, and are admitted Counsellors of this Court.3
Adjourned to Tuesday the 3rd. day of August 1790.
