1For the schedule of mail service between Alexandria, Va., and Philadelphia, see GW to Anthony Whitting, 2 Dec. 1792. The letter that GW expected on Saturday, 1 Feb., was Pearce’s letter to GW of 28 Jan., which has not been found. Apparently it did not require an immediate response, because GW waited until Sunday, 9 Feb., to reply.

2The bank note for Benjamin Tasker Dulany was enclosed in GW’s letter to Pearce of 26 January. Pearce acknowledged its receipt in his letter to GW of 4 February.

3According to the 5 March entry in GW’s Household Accounts description begins Presidential Household Accounts, 1793–97. Manuscript, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. description ends , $93.33 from the “President’s Accot.” was paid Howell Lewis “in full for a draft on mister Ross of Alexa. in favr of Wm Pearce, & recd by him.” Pearce acknowledged this instruction in a letter to GW of 11 February.
