Mr Pearce,
The Post which ought (in course) to have arrived here On Saturday last, will not be in, it seems, until tomorrow. When it arrives, I shall (if anything requires immediate notice) by the Post of Wednesday write to you—If not, I shall delay doing it until the usual time—that is, on Sunday next.1
By the last Post I sent you a bank note for One hundred dollars, to pay Mr Dulany—I hope it got safe to hand.2 I now enclose you Mr Lewis’s draught on Mr Horatio Ross of Alexandria which when received place to my credit and advise me thereof that I may repay the amount here.3 I am Your friend &ca

1. For the schedule of mail service between Alexandria, Va., and Philadelphia, see GW to Anthony Whitting, 2 Dec. 1792. The letter that GW expected on Saturday, 1 Feb., was Pearce’s letter to GW of 28 Jan., which has not been found. Apparently it did not require an immediate response, because GW waited until Sunday, 9 Feb., to reply.
2. The bank note for Benjamin Tasker Dulany was enclosed in GW’s letter to Pearce of 26 January. Pearce acknowledged its receipt in his letter to GW of 4 February.
3. According to the 5 March entry in GW’s , $93.33 from the “President’s Accot.” was paid Howell Lewis “in full for a draft on mister Ross of Alexa. in favr of Wm Pearce, & recd by him.” Pearce acknowledged this instruction in a letter to GW of 11 February.
