1James Wilkinson’s letter to Knox of 26 Jan. and its enclosures have not been identified. According to an entry of 7 March in GW’s executive journal, these documents were about the expedition being planned by Revolutionary War general George Rogers Clark and other Kentucky residents against the Spanish colony of Louisiana (JPP description begins Dorothy Twohig, ed. The Journal of the Proceedings of the President, 1793–1797. Charlottesville, Va., 1981. description ends , 289). On this expedition, see Edmund Randolph to GW, 27 Feb.
