Syrett, ed., The Papers of Alexander Hamilton (New York and London, 1961– ). description ends , XIV, was published, Whipple’s letter to H, February 5, 1793, was not printed on the ground that it was a routine Treasury Department letter. In that letter Whipple enclosed his weekly return of money received and wrote: “Cap. Yeaton has forwarded to me agreeably to My directions Monthly Journals of Occurrences on board the Scammel. If it is your desire that these Journals Should be transmitted to the Treasury be pleased to inform me—& whether to you, or to the Comptrollers office.”

Hopley Yeaton was captain of the New Hampshire revenue cutter Scammell. In “Treasury Department Circular to the Captains of the Revenue Cutters,” June 4, 1791 (PAH description begins Harold C. Syrett, ed., The Papers of Alexander Hamilton (New York and London, 1961– ). description ends , VIII, 426–33), H had ordered the captains of the revenue cutters to keep a journal and “that a copy of this journal to the end of each month be regularly forwarded to the Treasury.”
