Passy March 5th. 1778.
Dr. Franklin presents his Respects to Mr. A. Lee, is sorry he can not do himself the honour of waiting upon [him] on Monday next, being pre-engaged. If Tuesday or Wednesday will suit Mr. Lee’s Convenience, Dr. F. will [be] happy to accept his Invitation.9

The invitation was to dinner, where a guest was to be Sebastian de Llano y de la Quadra, conde de Sanafé and Vizconde de Llano, the Spanish envoy to the Hague: Butterfield, Adams Correspondence, IV, 339 n. Lee passed on this reply to the count, who returned it after adding on a blank page a note that he would gladly accept for Tuesday.
