1. John Meigs (c.1754–1826), of Middletown, Conn., joined Col. Samuel Blachley Webb’s Additional Continental Regiment as an ensign in February 1777. He became a lieutenant and acting regimental adjutant in May 1778. He transferred to the 3d Connecticut Regiment in January 1781 and served as adjutant until that regiment was disbanded in June 1783. Meigs was a captain in the U.S. Army from February 1799 to June 1800.
