I have discoverd a party of the Enemy on the Heights Just on the Right of two Widow dav⟨i⟩s’s who live close together on the Road calld the fork road, about half a mile to the Right of the meeting house (Birmingham) There is a higher Hill to their front.1

1. One of the widows was Susannah Davis (d. 1782), who owned eight acres of land in East Bradford Township along the road running southeast from Jeffries Ford, where Howe’s column crossed the east branch of the Brandywine early this afternoon, toward Birmingham Meeting House, which was located a short distance southeast of the Widow Davises’ houses. Osborne’s Hill, on which Howe’s column halted, lay a short distance northeast of their houses, and Birmingham Hill, where much of the battle was fought, lay immediately to the west of the meetinghouse. Susannah Davis was murdered in 1782.
