To Benjamin Franklin from [Jonathan Williams, Jr.], 23 November 1775

From [Jonathan Williams, Jr.]

AL: Public Record Office

London Nov. 23. 1773 [i.e., 17752]

Since writing the Inclosed, I have had some Conversation with a Gentleman relative to the proposed Bill, which he assures me is to look Back to all the Seizures made by the Kings Ships in America, and make them as well as all future ones legal Prises. The Bills proposed to be repealed are only the two fis[hing?] ones, and they intend to have as large a F[leet?] in America as they can raise and cut [off?] commercial Intercourse.

I am desired to give you this as [certain?] Information,3 to which I shall only add that I am as ever most dutifully and affectionately Yours.

Addressed: To / Doctor B Franklin / Market Street / Philadelphia

Notation:4 23 Nov. 1773

[Note numbering follows the Franklin Papers source.]

2This line has been added at the bottom by some one else, who clearly mistook the year; JW was adding a postscript to the “Inclosed,” the preceding letter. But he could scarcely have enclosed that letter, for each has its own address; we assume that they were mailed separately and intercepted together.

3The information about the Prohibitory Bill, as in his preceeding letter, was a mishmash of true and false.

4The same as that of the notation on the address of the preceding letter, and different from that of whoever added the place and date of this one.
