From James Madison to the Senate, 15 April 1816

To the Senate

April 15th 1816.

I nominate

Timothy Upham, of New Hampshire, to be Collector of Portsmouth, in the place of Joseph Whipple deceased.

John F. Parrott, of New Hampshire, to be Naval Officer for Portsmouth.

William Hammond of Rhode Island, to be surveyor of the port of North Kingstown, in the same State.

Bridges Arrundell of North Carolina, to be Collector of the port of Beaufort in the same state in the place of Henry M. Cook resigned.

RC (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 14B–A1). In John Payne Todd’s hand, signed by JM. The Senate confirmed the nominations of Upham, Parrott, and Arrundell on 20 Apr. 1816; that of Hammond was postponed until 23 Apr. 1816, when he also was confirmed (Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 3:43–44, 46, 47).
