JM forwarded the nominations, listing forty-nine names, in two messages to the Senate on 20 Apr. 1816 (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 14B–A1). The Senate approved five nominations on 23 Apr. 1816, rejected that of Buller Cocke of Virginia to be a purser on 26 Apr., and approved the remaining nominations on 26 and 27 Apr. 1816 (
3:44, 46–48, 49, 50).
