We have the honour to enclose a Copy of a resolution of the Select & Common Councils of the City of Philadelphia offering (in the present unfortunate situation of the City of Washington) accomodations for the President Congress & the Departments provided they should think it proper to accept of the same.1 We have the Honor to be with Great respect Your most obedt Servants

The enclosed copy (1 p.), dated 27 Aug. 1814 and certified by Select Council clerk Thomas Bradford Jr. as an “Extract from the Minutes,” specified “that the necessary buildings will be provided by councils” for the use of the executive, Congress, and “the public offices attached to the different departments.”
