Letter not found. 25 October 1810. Described as a one-page letter in the lists probably made by Peter Force (DLC, series 7, container 2). On 9 Oct. 1810 Onís had written to Robert Smith proposing that he be allowed to carry on a private correspondence with both Smith and JM to supplement consular communications as a means for maintaining Spain’s relations with the U.S. (DNA: RG 59, NFL, Spain).
