I nominate the persons named in the accompanying list for the Offices respectively, as stated in the letter from the Secretary of War.1

1JM enclosed a 28 Dec. 1815 letter from Secretary of War William Harris Crawford (1 p.), forwarding a two-page list of fifty-five names of “the Officers who have been retained in the peace establishment, with reduced ranks, shewing as well, their standing before the reduction, as their present rank in the Army—together with the appointments which have been made in the Ordnance Department” (printed in Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 3:15–17).
