Letterbook copy and letterbook copy of second enclosure. JM forwarded the enclosed nomination (1 p.; in a clerk’s hand, except for an added final clause “in place of Captn. Isaac Hull, resigned” and signature in JM’s hand) to the Senate on 14 Dec. 1815. For first enclosure, see n. 1.

1The enclosure was probably a 9 Dec. 1815 letter (1 p.) from Stephen Decatur to Crowninshield, accepting his nomination to the Board of Navy Commissioners, and conveying his thanks to JM for the appointment (DNA: RG 45, Captains’ Letters).
