§ From John Armstrong. 16 March 1814, War Department. “I have the honor respectfully to propose for your approbation the following appointments in the Army of the United States.”

RC and enclosure (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B-A2); letterbook copy (DNA: RG 107, LSP). RC 1 p.; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Armstrong. The appended list (2 pp.) included twenty promotions and appointments in the Second, Third, and Fourth regiments of Riflemen. JM submitted the nominations to the Senate the same day (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 13B-A2; printed in Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 2:510–11).
