13 November 1811. “I lay before Congress the Result of the census lately taken of the Inhabitants of the United States, with a letter from the Secretary of State relative thereto.”1

1. JM enclosed a letter he had received from James Monroe, dated 13 Nov. 1811 (1 p.), transmitting “two copies of the Third Census” and stating that “three hundred printed copies of this Document are prepared, subject to the order of Congress.” For the printed copy of the census, see Aggregate Amount of Each Description of Persons within the United States of America, and the Territories Thereof, Agreeably to Actual Enumeration Made according to Law, in the Year 1810 (Washington, 1811; Shaw and Shoemaker description begins R.
