From James Madison to Daniel Parker, ca. 10 September 1813 (Abstract)

§ To Daniel Parker

Ca. 10 September 1813. “Mr. Parker will please to forward these to the Secy. of War, to whom J. M. has written on the subject,1 as he has on that of an answer to Govr. Shelby. If Mr. P. has not already sent to the Secretary the memorandum,2 relative to an answer, he will be so good as to do it, J. M. having referred the Secy. to it.”

RC (PHi: Daniel Parker Papers). 1 p. Docketed by Parker, with his note: “Rec’d Sunday Morng Sept. 12 & enclosed to the Secretary of War same day with a letter from the President to the Secretary at War.” Undated; conjectural date assigned on the basis of Parker’s docket.

1Parker’s letter to JM of 5 Sept. 1813 and JM’s letter to John Armstrong of 8 Sept. 1813 suggest that the documents to be forwarded were Benjamin Hawkins to Armstrong, 23 Aug. 1813, and David B. Mitchell to Armstrong, 24 Aug. 1813. For Hawkins’s and Mitchell’s letters, see Parker to JM, 5 Sept. 1813, and n. 5.
