To James Madison from Daniel Parker, 30 August 1813

From Daniel Parker

War Office August 30th. 1813

D. Parker has the honor to enclose to the President of the U.States several letters relative to the hostile Indians1 & to inform that the Secretary of State has received a full explanation of all material circumstances connected with the southern expedition against the Indians.

RC (DNA: RG 59, ML).

1Parker probably enclosed Georgia governor David B. Mitchell’s letter to John Armstrong of 9 Aug. 1813, which arrived in the War Department on 29 Aug. (DNA: RG 107, LRRS, M-198:7). Mitchell stated that he had ordered out a 2,000-man militia force rather than the 1,500 authorized by Armstrong, because he expected that “the whole strength of the hostile Savages will have to be met by the Troops from this State.” They would be ready to march in four days but were “destitute of all supplies,” which the state was not able to provide. Parker may also have enclosed Willie Blount’s letters to Armstrong of 14, 15, and 16 Aug. 1813, all of which reached the War Department on 29 Aug. (DNA: RG 107, Registers of Letters Received).
