1. Graham enclosed a table entitled “Estimate of the compensation per month required for the Troops at the respective Posts & Stations of the North & South Divisions of the Army of the U States Peace Establishment” (1 p.), dated 16 Aug. 1815, addressed to the secretary of war (William Harris Crawford), and signed by Army paymaster Robert Brent. It showed that of a total of $59,753 appropriated monthly for the compensation of the Northern Division of the peacetime U.S. Army, $1,826 was allocated to provide for two companies of artillery at Fort McHenry and dependencies, and $913 for one company of artillery at Fort Washington. The total monthly appropriation for the Southern Division, which did not include any posts in the vicinity of Washington, was $50,805. The copy of the report that was sent to the War Department is filed in the National Archives (RG 107, LRUS, B–1815).
