§ From Benjamin W. Crowninshield. 7 December 1815, Navy Department. “I have the honor to enclose herewith, Lists of the Promotions & appointments made in the Navy & marine Corps of the United States, during the late Recess of Congress.”

Letterbook copy and letterbook copy of enclosures (DNA: RG 45, LSP). Letterbook copy 1 p. The letterbook copy of enclosures (2 pp.) includes a list of two midshipmen and one sailing master promoted to the rank of lieutenant, as well as one surgeon’s mate promoted to surgeon, and a list of the appointments of three surgeon’s mates, five pursers, two chaplains, and one Marine Corps second lieutenant (printed in Senate Exec. Proceedings, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States of America (3 vols.; Washington, 1828). description ends 3:4–5). JM forwarded the lists to the Senate on 14 Dec. 1815 (DNA: RG 46, Executive Proceedings, Nominations, 14B–A1).
