From Frederick Jacob Wichelhausen, 16 July 1806 (Abstract)

§ From Frederick Jacob Wichelhausen. 16 July 1806, Bremen. “Begging leave to confirm herewith the Contents of my last Respects of the 23rd Ult, I have now the honor to transmit, in conformity with my Duty, the semi annual list of american vessels arrived at and sailed from the Rivers Weser and Jahde, which is drawn out as usual.1

“In this moment the Weser is quite free again for neutral vessels coming from neutral ports, which gives new life to the navigation and trade of this city; all Vessels however arriving from french or spanish Ports are obliged to go to Tonningen, and unload their Cargos there, whereby they suffer great detention and additional Charges.”

RC and enclosure (DNA: RG 59, CD, Bremen, vol. 1). RC 1 p.; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Wichelhausen; docketed by Wagner as received 1 Oct. For enclosure, see n. 1.

1The enclosed return (2 pp.; in a clerk’s hand, signed by Wichelhausen) showed that between 1 Jan. and 30 June 1806, fourteen American ships had arrived at the Jade and Weser rivers, four of which were still in port on the latter date. In addition, it listed the names and types of the ships, their tonnage capacities, the names of the masters and owners, the number of seamen, the ports cleared from and places touched at, the types of cargo brought in and carried out, the owners and consignees of the cargoes, the places bound to, and the dates of arrival and departure.
