To James Madison from Levett Harris, 23 July 1806 (Abstract)

From Levett Harris, 23 July 1806 (Abstract)

§ From Levett Harris. 23 July 1806, St. Petersburg. “I have the pleasure to introduce to Your Acquaintance Mr Joseph Allen Smith of South Carolina, of whom I have made particular mention in my dispatch of the 9.th. instant.1

“As Mr. Smith proceeds hence to England, my letter referred to will doubtless reach you previous to Mr. Smith’s arrival in America, and will therefore render my saying anything further on this occasion superfluous.”

RC (DLC). 1 p. Dated 11 July 1806 by Harris in the Julian calendar and dated 11 July 1806 in the Index to the James Madison Papers. Gregorian calendar date assigned here based on evidence in n. 1.

1Harris presumably referred to his 21 July 1806 letter to JM, dated “9/21 July” in the Julian and Gregorian calendars.
