§ From William Lee. 14 September 1805, Bordeaux. “I have the honor to enclose you a bill of Loading & Invoice of six Cases of Wine, one Tierce of Vinegar and two Cases of Cordials which I have shipped for you on board the Brig Lyon to the address of Mr Purveyance of Baltimore.1 I hope they will arrive safe and be to your liking.”

The enclosures (2 pp.) are a copy of a 9 Sept. 1805 bill of lading for two cases containing thirty-six bottles of wine each, four cases containing thirty bottles of wine each, two cases containing fifty bottles of liqueurs each, and one tierce of vinegar, at four pounds sterling per ton freight “going for one ton and one sixth” sent aboard the Lyon, Peter Coursell, master; and a copy of an invoice dated 10 Sept. 1805 for seventy-two bottles of 1798 Pichon Longueville red wine, sixty bottles of red St. Julien wine, sixty bottles of unspecified red wine, two cases containing a total of twenty bottles of “huile de Jupiter,” twenty bottles of “huile de Venus,” twenty bottles of “huile de Rose,” twenty bottles of orange liqueur, and twenty bottles of “huile de Noyeaux,” and a barrel containing thirty-eight gallons of vinegar, plus various charges for packing, shipping, and attendant costs, for a total of 1,205 francs. The Lyon arrived at Baltimore on 10 Nov. 1805 (Baltimore Weekly Price Current, 14 Nov. 1805).
