Thou strange inconsistant man! always at variance with Thyself, at one period advocating the utility of our Work Shops in Europe, at another in our own country, thus exposing thyself to the pity & derision of Thy friends & foes, hitherto thou hath been considered the Agent of Napoleon, now some Think thee under the Influence of George for to this man & his cause thou hath done much good, the price cwt. of 18th Jny. shews that Thou hath Transferr’d the Commerce of this once flourishing city to Quebec, What! 186:708 bushls. Wheat, 52,934 busls. pease, 13,830 busls. [. . .] 42,587 bls flour, 31,587 Quins Bread, 30,838 bls ashes 1,824,861 Staves, the other articles of less value I do not notice, Tho last was the first year of thy experiments this year, if they are continued, the Exports will be increased, perhaps doubled for a Gentn., lately from Canada, informs us that he met between montreal & the Boundery line upwards of 700 Sleds loaded with Ashes, Grain, flour & other provisions, this is not the only Evil, all our Seamen are gone, some in Same route, but the greater part to N. Scotia, all our Citizens are become paupers, more than 20,000 now depend on Charity, Shew this to thy successor a man equally visionary & inconsistant, now honorably engaged in Subverting Those principles That he once, in conjunction with Jay & Hamilton, his more wise & virtuous Compatriots, advocated O how are the mighty fallen—adieu.
