Th: Jefferson asks the favor of mr Barnes to have the inclosed paid to mr Gelston. he will thank him also for 20. D. in 5 dollar bills.

In his financial memoranda at 27 Oct. 1803, TJ recorded his request that Barnes pay David gelston $55.62 “for freight & duty of 300. bottles of wine from Bordeaux” (MB description begins James A. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767-1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1111).
