L’Orient, 21 Jan. 1788. Sent TJ a package of china by the diligence on 17 Jan. for which he drew for 228.₶ 2, at one day’s sight on TJ, payable to Dussault, from whom the china was bought.

RC (DLC); 1 p.; endorsed. Although not mentioned in the letter, there may have been enclosed in it a MS (DLC) entitled: “Note des Porcelaines expédiées le 17 Janvier 1788 en une Caisse pour partir par la messagerie du 21 à l’adresse de Monsieur Jefferson,” dated 17 Jan. 1788 and listing the china (“2 Douzaines, d’Assiettes en Couleur … 2 Soupières, pre[miè]re grandeur … 8 Plats longs, 5me. grandeur … 4 Douzaines, d’Assiettes à Dessert …”) and its total cost. The cancelled draft for 228.₶ 2, endorsed by J. Dussault, is also in DLC. Another sight draft by Macarty on TJ for 202 livres 4 sols, dated 20 Jan. 1787, is also in DLC and bears this notation by TJ: “paid to Mr. McCarty himself June 20. 1787.”
