AD, NyKaJJH. Here, and in the guest lists below, columns of names have been consolidated into paragraph form with added punctuation. Numbers indicating the number of guests in a party and the total number invited have been omitted. The symbol “x” after a guest’s name, apparently indicating nonacceptance of the invitation or nonattendance at the event, has been retained. The abbreviation “Do.” has been replaced with the name intended. Persons not previously identified or whose names are obscure are identified in the end notes whenever possible. The guest lists covered events primarily for diplomats, congressmen and other public officials, and some for friends and family, while many seem a blend of both.

1José Maria Juan Ignacio Gardoqui Orueta (1772–1800), son of the Spanish minister, arrived in New York in May 1786; see Independent Journal, 27 May 1786. Possibly Catalina Sophia Cuyler (1766–?), who married John Van Cortlandt in 1787. Judith Bayard Van Rensselaer Bruce (1737–1817). Henry White Jr. (1763–1822). Anne Van Cortlandt White (1766–1814). Augustus Van Cortlandt (1728–1823), father of Anne White. Catherine Barclay (Mrs. Augustus) Van Cortlandt (1744–1808). Helena Van Cortland (1768–1812), daughter of Augustus and Catherine. John Van Cortlandt (1764–?). Augustus Van Horne (1736–96), his son Augustus Vallete Van Horne (1765–1853), his wife Anna Maria Van Cortlandt Van Horne (1737–90), and daughter Elizabeth Van Horne (1771–1852). Margaret Marshall of Philadelphia, New York, and Elizabethtown was the fiancée of Francisco Rendón, although they never married. The guests at both these dinners were related by blood and marriage to both JJ and SLJ.

2Garret or Garrit Van Horne (1758–1825). Ann Margaret Clarkson (Mrs. Garrett or Garrit) Van Horne (1761–1824). Freeman Clarkson (1756–1810). Thomas Streatfield Clarkson (1763–1844). David Van Horne (1755–1801). Cornelia Van Horne (1759–?). Jacob Read married Catherine Van Horne in 1785.
