9. For this couple, who had been recommended to BF by John Hancock, see XL, 261. We place this undated acceptance at its earliest possible date. Valnais and his family arrived in Paris by mid-September, and by Oct. 3 BF had written at least one letter of recommendation for him; see Genet to BF of that date.
