Please to pay ⟨to Messrs. Francis and John West of Philadelphia or order⟩ five hundred and fifty two dollars for value received, as an advance for one quarters attendance on ⟨Congress⟩,1 to   Yr. Obedt. & hble servt.

The Hon. Jas Madison £165.12.0.” Words within angle brackets supplied by Randolph.
