Notice to Foreign Ministers on Mourning

Septr 30th. 1785

To Acquaint the Foreign Ministers of the Courts going into Mourning on Sunday next the 2d: of Octr. for His late Royal Highness The Infant Don Lewis Brother to His Catholic Majesty Vizt1

The Ladies to wear black Silk or Velvet, Coloured Ribbons Fans and Tippets, or plain white or white and Gold or white and Silver Stuffs with black Ribbons.

The Men to wear black Coats, and black or plain white or white and Gold, or white and Silver Stuff Waistcoats full trimmed Coloured Swords and Buckles

And on Thursday the 6th: of October the Court to go out of Mourning—

1The Infante Luis Antonio Jaime de Borbón y Farnesio of Spain (1727–1785), the youngest brother and sometimes rival of Charles III, king of Spain, died at Arenas de San Pedro, Ávila, on 7 Aug. He was created archbishop and cardinal of Toledo at age nine but later renounced his religious responsibilities and became the 12th Conde de Chinchón in 1761 (Salvador Miranda, Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, Biographical Dictionary, Florida International University Libraries, www2.fiu.edu/~mirandas/cardinals.htm).
