Piscattaway [Md.] 14th Novr 1772

Sir

The 23d of this Month I must Attend at our Court, therefore it will not be in my power to meet at Fredericksburgh. But whatever is Concluded on by you and the other Gentn that may be there, I will on Acct of the Heirs of James Towers, be agreeable to And what Money may be wanting for there part towards defraying any Expence I will Advance for them, when I see you to know how much it is.1 I am Your very hum. Servt

Col. John Baynes had a store in Piscataway, Prince George’s County, Maryland.

1. In January 1754 James Towers was made an ensign and accompanied GW on his mission to build a fort at the Forks of the Ohio. See Papers, Colonial Series description begins W. W. Abbot et al., eds. The Papers of George Washington, Colonial Series. 10 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1983–95. description ends , 1:64–67. GW recommended Towers for promotion in June 1754, and Towers was present at the surrender of Fort Necessity in July 1754. He was not in the Virginia forces after December 1754.
