C. & O. Hanbury

LS, ViHi: Custis Papers. The letter was addressed to Daniel Parke Custis, John Parke Custis’s deceased father. GW changed the “Daniel” to “John” in the letter itself, and on 21 Oct. 1766 the Hanburys apologized for having used the wrong name.

1John Parke Custis’s account current with Hanbury is in ViHi: Custis Papers.

2GW wrote Hanbury on 20 Sept. 1765 that he was sending twelve hogsheads of John Parke Custis’s tobacco in the Fauquier.

3On the reverse side there is this letter of 22 July from Hanbury addressed to Daniel Parke Custis: “The foregoing was intended by a Ship then up for Virginia but her Voyage is since alterd. we have now the pleasure to advise the arrival ⟨mutilated⟩ Capt. Esten. no care shall be wanting in us to make the ⟨mo⟩st of the 12 ⟨mutilated⟩ Hds Tobacco.” Capt. James Esten took letters dated 27 Mar. 1766 to Custis and GW.
