N[ew] London [Conn.] Febry 11th 1758

Dear Sir

I wrote you by the last Post to which must now Cheifly Refer you,1 this being just to beg your Pardon for the freedom I have taken to direct a small Box to you for my Brother. this Box will be forwarded to you by Mr William Coxe of Phila. who will at the desire of Mr Robinson send you a Line acquainting you by what Oppertunity & which way it is sent,2 if we have any thing new I Shall take Care to advise you and am with great Respect Dear Sir Your Very Obedt Servt

A native Virginian, Joseph Chew frequently wrote to GW from New London, Conn., where he was a merchant.

1. That letter has not been found. The most recent letter from Joseph Chew which has been found is dated 15 Aug. 1757.

2. See Beverley Robinson to GW, 1 Mar. 1758, in which this letter was enclosed. William Coxe (d. 1801) was a prominent merchant of Philadelphia, a partner of Moore Furman and the father of Tench Coxe.
