To Benjamin Franklin from John Almon, 6 December 1774

From John Almon

ALS: American Philosophical Society

Decr. 6 1774

Sir

There having been only a small number printed, because upon so beaten a subject, one is doubtful of success, till the Public opinion can be taken; but this pamphlet being much approved, it is probable that it will be reprinted.8 Should be glad therefore of notice of any errors (per penny post, or otherwise). I am sorry you have had the trouble to send twice, it was owing to a mistake. I am Sir your very much obliged and most obedient Servant

J Almon

Addressed: Dr Franklin

8For Arthur Lee’s Appeal to the Justice and Interests of the People of Great Britain see BF to Almon above, Nov. 7. It was published the day before Almon wrote, and went into a second edition a month later: Public Advertiser, Dec. 5, 1774; Jan. 13, 1775. The author, a reviewer commented, was “an able advocate for the colonists ... as having, in common with British subjects, an indefeasible right to an exclusive disposal of their own property.” Monthly Rev., LI (1774), 474.
