Upon receiving the managers from the House of Representatives for the purpose of exhibiting the impeachment articles, the Senate followed procedures that they had adopted on 5 Feb. including designating James Mathers, doorkeeper of the Senate, to serve as sergeant-at-arms. Upon TJ’s order, Mathers issued a proclamation for silence in the Senate as Sitgreaves read the document.
