New York, April 4, 1799. “I have made out Mr Mangin acct of what I think he ought to be paid for his services2 & I wish you to examine it, & if you approve of the Same, you will give me an order to pay him.… I have not made the price, it is what the military Committee3 agreed to give him.”

Novr. 15 For services rendered as Engineer from the 18th June last to this Day is 150 days at 5 Dollars pr. Day $750.
Ebenezer Stevens Esqr. Agent for the War department of the United States
To Joseph F. Mangin Dr:

Augst. 10 For services rendered as Engineer employed in conjunction with Messrs Hill & fleming from the 18 June last 53 days @ 2 dollars pr. Day $106.

Jany 1 For services as Engineer directing the Completion of the fortifications and Buildings erected in Fort Jay from the 15 Novemr to this day 46 days @ 5 dollrs pr Day 230.
