1Timothy Pickering says in his journal entry for this date that “the [army] marched about five miles farther down on the Skippack road to Worcester township” (Pickering and Upham, Life of Pickering description begins Octavius Pickering and Charles W. Upham. The Life of Timothy Pickering. 4 vols. Boston, 1867–73. description ends , 1:166). Peter Wentz’s farmhouse in Worcester Township, located about fifteen miles northwest of Germantown, was the site of GW’s headquarters from 2 to 3 Oct. and again from 16 to 20 October. On 4 Oct. Mathias Wentz received £2.10.6 “in full” for food provided to GW and his headquarters staff (household account book, 11 April 1776–21 Nov. 1780, DLC:GW, ser. 5, vol. 28; vouchers and receipted accounts, 1776–80, DLC:GW, ser. 5, vol. 29).
