Mr. Parker will be able to learn more of the within case than is distinctly explained, as well as something perhaps of the writer, & to judge how far an answer ought to be given.1 If the call of the U.S. for Militia has its effect, it does not occur that they can inte[r]fere with State drafts, wch. it might be presumed would endeavor to avoid the evil here complained.
If there be danger that Govr. Blount will order out or employ 4000 men, it wd. be well to remind him, of the limit presented.2 Is not Genl. Harrison authorized to regulate the succours to be sent him? & is not Govr. S. in concert with him?3

1. JM apparently enclosed James P. Leary’s letter to him of 11 Aug. 1813.
2. JM referred to Willie Blount’s letters to John Armstrong of 30 July and 1 Aug. 1813 (DNA: RG 107, LRRS, B-286:7 and B-290:7). In the former, Blount acknowledged receipt of Armstrong’s to him of 13 July on the subject of raising 1,500 men to combat the hostile Creek Indians (DNA: RG 107, LSMA), recommended that 5,000 Tennesseeans be organized for that purpose, and declared that he could do so within twenty days. In the latter, he inquired whether his command included the Tennessee volunteers currently serving under Maj. Gen. Andrew Jackson, and enclosed a note requesting orders relative to extending the service of two U.S. companies stationed in Tennessee.
