G ’ Wythe to T ’ Jefferson
My kinsman James Westwood Wallace proposeth to remove to New-Orleans, invited by the prospect of providing for a numerous and increasing familie there better than he can provide for them here. he professeth medicine. any kind office to him will be grateful to me. adieu.

kinsman: Wallace’s great-grandmother, Anne Wythe, was Wythe’s paternal grandmother. After studying with Dr. Gustavus Brown of Maryland, Wallace attended medical school in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he became a member of the Royal Medical Society. In 1793, he received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and went on to have a successful practice at Fauquier Court House, Virginia. A brother-in-law of Washington, D.C., marshal Daniel Carroll Brent, he died in 1838 (Daily National Intelligencer, 5 Sep. 1838; , 1st ser., 9 [1900-01], 130-1; Madison to TJ, 11 Sep. 1803).
