Washington June 28. 1803.

Sir

At the desire of mr Oldham I inclose you sixty dollars, of the disposition of which he informs me he has before advised you. I avail myself of this occasion of offering you my best wishes.

A letter of 24 June from James oldham to TJ, recorded in SJL as received 25 June, has not been found, nor has TJ’s response of 28 June. Another letter from Oldham, recorded in SJL as one of 8 July received 10 July, has also not been found. In his financial memoranda, TJ recorded on this day enclosing a payment of $60 to Trump “for James Oldham” (MB description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1104).
