New York, August 6, 1802. Propose that Williamson go to England to settle his dispute with William Hornby and Patrick Colquhoun.

Benson, a Federalist, was attorney general of New York from 1777 to 1788, a member of the New York Assembly from 1777 to 1781 and in 1788, a member of the Continental Congress from 1784 to 1788, a member of the House of Representatives from 1789 to 1793, and an associate justice on the New York Supreme Court from 1794 to 1801. In 1801 John Adams appointed him chief judge of the Second Circuit of the United States Circuit Courts.

Harison was a delegate to the New York Ratifying Convention in 1788, a member of the New York Assembly in 1788 and 1789, United States attorney for the District of New York from 1789 to 1802, and recorder for New York City from 1798 to 1801.
