In his financial memoranda on this day, TJ recorded the receipt of $20 from Barnes (, 2:1057). He had apparently requested $20.75 to reimburse Thomas Newton for freight charges on the trees and Indian statues recently received from New Orleans (see Newton to TJ, 16 Oct. and TJ to Newton, 9 Nov.).
