Dear Sir
In your favor of the 18th. you mention having for disposal two casks of white & red Sherry, and one of Malaga. if the Sherry be dry, I will gladly take them, as also the Malaga. if you could order for me a pipe of dry Pacharetti, and one of dry Sherry of the first qualities, to be forwarded from Spain by the first safe occasion I should be obliged to you. I presume you have persons there on whom you can rely for the quality, tho’ absent yourself. I wish the wines as old as could be got, so as to be ready for immediate use. accept assurances of my great esteem and respect.

Gladly take them: in May, TJ recorded the receipt from Yznardi of a 126-gallon pipe of Pedro Ximenes “Mountain” sherry, 30 gallons of “Tent” (from “tinto” or “tintillo de Rota”), which was a dark red sherry, and a keg of sweet pajarete, a Malaga wine that TJ called Pacharetti or pacaret. He later had 424 bottles drawn from the pipe of Pedro Ximenes wine and shipped them to Monticello. Yznardi ordered for TJ more sherry, a pipe of dry pajarete, and a 60-gallon tierce of lágrima, a dark, sweet wine from Malaga. The lágrima, which arrived at Baltimore late in 1801, was of 1755 vintage.
