Dear Sir;

1Ogden, a native of Newark and an Episcopal clergyman, served intermittently as assistant rector of Trinity Church in New York until he accepted the position of rector of Trinity Church in Newark in 1788. On August 16, 1798, he was elected the first bishop of New Jersey, but in June, 1799, and again in 1801 the delegates to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church refused to consent to his election because they considered him to be too lax in matters of doctrine and order.

2Uzal Ogden, Two Discourses Occasioned by the death of General Washington at Mount Vernon, December 14, 1799, by the Rev. Uzal Ogden, DD., Rector of Trinity Church, Newark, in the State of New-Jersey, Delivered in That Church and in the church in union with it, at Bellville, December 29, 1799, and January 5, 1800 (Newark: Matthias Day, 1800).
