New York, August 8, 1798. “We have recd. a Letter from the party interested in the Policy of the ship Elizabeth.… We have seen Mr. Murray2 on the … subject & he refers us to you & says that if the present evidence be insufficient he will procure what may be wanted if you will Obtain a Commission from the Court for the purpose.”

1. Libeus Loomis and Stephen Tillinghast were New York City merchants and partners in a countinghouse.
