From John Jay to Sarah Livingston Jay, 25 July 1796

To Sarah Livingston Jay

New York 25 July 1796

My dear Sally

I hope this Letter will find you at Lebanon in better Health than when you left us— The Passage, the Journey, Change of air, and Leisure will all aid the Waters in the Recovery of your Health—1 While I was from Home this morning Mrs. Ridley was informed of a Sloop just about to sail for Kinderhook and in Haste wrote you a few Lines. It is said that another will sail this Evening and by her this Letter is intended to go. Sallys Face is better— William is well— I am as usual— The Staten Island Boy is now here, and appearances are in his favor— he seems to be willing and handy—about 16 Years old and rather short for that age— I have no Letters from Nancy since your Departure— Tomorrow or next Day I hope to make a Visit to our Friends at Rye; unless as has often been the Case, some unexpected circumstance should occur to prevent me. We have nothing new. You will probably see some of Mr Van Schaacks Family— remember me to them—and also to Mrs. Cortlandt— We have sent her aunt notice of this opportunity, who together with the Children are well— You shall hear from me by every opportunity; and I need not tell you how much pleasure frequent Letters from you will give to My Dr Sally Your aff[ectiona]te

John Jay
