To Sampson Crosby

Monticello Feb. 29. 96.

Dear Sir

I did not answer your favor of Jan. 18. immediately on the reciept of it because I had written just before it came, to inform you of the reciept of your former letter. I have kept back the present one to be able to acknolege to you the reciept of the blinds themselves which have come safely to hand, and claim a repetition of those thanks which I have so often cause to render you. RC (ViU); torn at seal; addressed: “Mr. Sampson Crosby at the Secy. of state’s office Philadelphia”; stamped; endorsed by Crosby as received 10 Mch. 96.

Crosby’s favor of Jan. 18., received on 2 Feb. 1796, and a subsequent letter of 3 Aug. 1796, received nine days later, are both recorded in SJL but have not been found.
