Treasury Department, Revenue Office, January 7, 1795. “… the House of Whelen & Miller1 propose to set a part a specimen of Salt Petre for the Standard, above or below which they are content to vary the price of 12 50/100 Dolls. It is called rough Salt Petre, and is 10 ⅌ Ct. below the requisite degree of refinement.”
