Dec. 18. 1793.

Th: Jefferson has the honor to submit to the President’s approbation the draught of letters to Mr. Genet and the Atty. Genl. on the subject of the prosecution desired by the former to be instituted against Messrs. Jay and King.

He also incloses the form of a warrant for Đ 2544.37 for the Director of the Mint for the purchase of copper.

(3) George Washington to Alexander Hamilton, 18 Dec. 1793: “Pay to the Director of the mint, for the purposes thereof two thousand five hundred and forty four dollars and thirty seven cents, on account” (PrC in DLC; in TJ’s hand, unsigned; at foot of text: “The Secretary of the Treasury”).

On this day the President returned the first two enclosures to TJ with his approval, while signing the third and sending it back to TJ for submission to the Department of the Treasury (Washington, Journal, description begins Dorothy Twohig, ed., The Journal of the Proceedings of the President, 1793–1797, Charlottesville, 1981 description ends 269).
