Robert Oliver (ca. 1757–1834) and Hugh Thompson (1760–1826) were natives of Ireland who immigrated to Baltimore in 1783 and 1784, respectively. They formed a mercantile partnership in 1785 and dissolved it eleven years later, after which Oliver entered into a very successful partnership with his brothers (Stuart W. Bruchey, Robert Oliver, Merchant of Baltimore, 1783–1819 [Baltimore, 1956], 19–20; Maryland Historical Magazine, L [1955], 332).
Oliver & Thompson’s favor of the 10th. inst., recorded in SJL as received 12 Sep. 1793, has not been found.
